2.4 Feedback from participants

Following the presentations, the Participants made the following remarks;

  • High taxes on rice from DRC-Traders should embrace the domestic production of rice since it attracts high taxes. The rice from DC Congo is highly taxed due to a number of factors that attract high taxes.
  • Formalize Business-Traders should embrace formal ways of conducting business by registering for Tin numbers, which will benefit them by linking them to greater business prospects.
  • Comply with customs Office-Traders should comply with requirements at Customs by ensuring that goods crossing the border are paid and receipted for. Traders should avoid use of illegal routes in a bid to dodge taxes
  • Clarification on taxes that are paid and exempt; Clarity on import and export taxes was only for the common list of products but VAT and withholding Tax were still applicable.
