2.2.2.4 Representative to the Permanent Secretary

The representative to the P/S and GLTFP Coordinator, Mr.Kamukama Steven welcomed all guests to the launch of STR. He apologized for the P/S not being present due to other commitments. He mentioned that the MoU signing at Kasese yielded positive results and that they were already being implemented such as the Common list of Products, establishment of Joint Border committees, Trade Information desks and launch of STR. He mentioned that Traders were still unsatisfied with procedures such as complex documentation, but noted that the STR Program would ease movement of and trading across the borders.

He added that the land for the border export zone was already identified and needed to be free from encumbrances, and  from the council resolution (10th-11th June), this would be closed. He appreciated the World Bank’s commitment to funding this Project that was going to benefit many stakeholders ion the two countries of Uganda and DRC.
